Recap: Phillies Opening Day

What a joy it was.. Opening day usally means the end of spring. Although it was snowing before the start of yesterdays ball game. This game was not very exciting unitl the end.

The Astros were leading 4-1 late in the game. They brought out some other than Brett Myers. They pitched and only gave up one run. Then in the 9th, the Phillies offense came alive! Their were a few consecutive hits againt Brandon Lyon, until he got the first out. Ryan Howard comes up with a base hit and loaded the bases because Juan Samuel held Shane Victorino. The crowd really came alive when the bases were loaded. When it was 4-4 John Mayberry Jr. came up as the pinch hitter. He ends up hitting a single over the head of Micheal Bourn (just barely) and wins the game of the Phillies.

Phillies Lose In 16 Crazy Innings

The Phillies have stranded 6 base runners this game. But they did go to extra’s because of Jimmy Rollins homerun. It was a blast into the first level of the stands, but it went far. For the recap:

TOP 4th:

Carlos Lee 2-run homer, Hunter Pence scores. Score 2-0 HOU

Bottom 6th:

Raul Ibanez double, Scores Jayson Werth. Score 2-1 HOU

Bottom 9th:

Jimmy Rollins solo homer. Score 2-2 TIED

Bottom 10:

Jimmy Rollins solo home run was the run that tied this game up. The one that sent us to extra’s against the Astros’. Brad Lidge came into the 10th with a clean 10th inning. Chase Utley came up and struck out against Abad, Ryan Howard followed, Jayson Werth walked, and Raul Ibanez grounded out

Top 11:

Astros faces Jose Contreras. Angel Sanchez bunts but gets thrown out by Contreras. Hunter Pence singles to left. Brent Wallace singles to right. Jason Michaels flys out to Utley, doubles off Pence at second.

Bottom 11:

Shane Victorino leads of bottom 11 against Abad: Strikes out. Carlos Ruiz grounds out. Wilson Valdez (PH) flys out to Micheal Bourn.

Top 12:

Ryan Madson in for Contreras. Madson Pitches clean inning

Top 13:

Houston Pitcher pitches clean inning.

Bottom 14:

Ryan Howard ejected for aguring balls and strikes. Raul Ibanez comes in from left field to play first. Roy Oswalt goes to left field to play LF. (He made the first out.)

Top 16:

Astros score 2 on a bad play by Polanco. Bases loaded with 1 out, Polanco dives for a ground ball throws to second (not in time), Utley to first (not in time) 1 run scored.

End Game. Astros win 4-2.
